Sep. 20—SAYBROOK — Debra Barrickman, Ashtabula Area City Schools board member, said the A-Tech expansion project is on track at a AACS board meeting Wednesday night.

She said the goal is to have everything up and running by the next school year.

"Crews are pouring footers this week," A-Tech Superintendent Scott Wludyga said on Thursday. "The block walls will be going up in the next week or so."

The 25,000 square-foot project was possible due to a $6 million construction grant that A-Tech received from the state of Ohio. The total project cost is $12 million.

The expansion is the largest construction project to happen on the campus since it opened in 1969.

When the project is completed, A-Tech will have a new advanced manufacturing lab, a firefighter EMT lab, criminal justice lab and new classroom.

Wludgyga said previously that A-Tech will hire at least two new instructors once the expansion is complete.

A-Tech will host an advisory committee and stakeholder dinner on Oct. 10.

"All of our career tech programs have advisory committees made up of industry professionals and community representatives," Wludyga said. "This is our chance to hold an annual meeting and recognize them for their support of our programs."
