A pair who allegedly slipped a bag of methamphetamine into sourdough bread behind an Auburn supermarket were arrested on drug charges after a Placer County sheriff's dog sniffed out the suspect loaf.

The Sept. 21 arrest at a north Auburn Raley's sent the two to Placer County Jail on charges including felony possession of a controlled substance for sale and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Deputies and their patrol dog, Axel, were called to check on a car parked behind the supermarket in the 13300 block of Lincoln Way when the canine alerted to a sourdough loaf inside the vehicle, said sheriff's officials.
