Auburn NFL roundup: Darius Slayton steps in for Malik Nabers for Giants

A.Smith32 min ago
Four games into his NFL career, New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers led the league with 35 receptions, good for 386 yards and three touchdowns. But a concussion caused him to miss Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Giants needed someone to step up for the prized rookie to keep from slipping to 1-4. It turned out to be Darius Slayton .

The former Auburn wide receiver entered the game with 122 yards on 10 receptions in the 2024 season. In New York's 29-20 victory over Seattle, Slayton had eight receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown as he recorded the sixth 100-yard receiving game of his career.

"We moved Slayton over where Nabers was a bunch," Giants coach Brian Daboll said , "and he was on the other side usually, so now he has to learn the whole - not learn because he's been with us since we've been here, and one of the reasons is because he's very dependable and he's smart. So to hear a personnel group from training camp and all this, you're going to this position and all of a sudden have to flip and go to that position - that's Slay, though. He's a great teammate, and he's always done whatever we have asked of him. I've said that numerous times. I'm happy for him."

Slayton caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Daniel Jones as New York took a 17-10 lead with 10:41 left in the third quarter. The touchdown was the first of the season for Slayton and the 20th of his career.

"It's basically opposite for me," Slayton said of Sunday's changes. "Where I'm used to going, I'm going the other way. Just trying to do my best to remember that. I definitely went the wrong way a time or two. I got it together. I was able to do decent today."

Slayton started the touchdown drive with the longest play of the game for the Giants – a 41-yard reception. But he got an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty on the play and lost 15 yards off that.

Slayton was among the 17 former Auburn players who got on the field on the fifth Sunday of the NFL's 105th season.

Two other former Auburn players were involved in the New York-Seattle game:

· Derick Hall started at outside linebacker for the Seahawks. Hall made six tackles, recorded one sack, registered two quarterback hits and forced one fumble.

· Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett (Jackson) made one tackle and broke up one pass.
