The Aurora Free Library will hold its 20th annual Book Lovers' Ball this weekend, as well as a free talk by the event's featured author.

The ball, which supports the library, will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Treleaven Wines, 658 Lake Road, King Ferry.

It will feature dinner, wine and beer, dancing to music by The Destination, a silent auction and more. Tickets are $125.

Then, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, featured author Melinda Oakes will give a talk about her book "The Cheerleader's Guide to the Workplace."

The talk will take place at the Morgan Opera House above the library, 370 Main St., Aurora, which celebrated its 125th anniversary this year.

Oakes is the executive director of the Triad Foundation in Ithaca and active in several nonprofit boards.

Her book "offers advice that shows how your attitude and perspective impact both you and those around you," the library said in a news release.

"The book aims to instill the courage, mindset, and enthusiasm to make it through the workday and entire career no matter what your goals are," the library said.

"The book fills a gap in self-improvement books by loving the reader right where they are."

The talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
