Authorities crack down on holiday drinking with shocking DWI arrest numbers

SAN ANTONIO – The day before Thanksgiving is considered ‘Black Out Wednesday’ or ‘Drinksgiving.’ It refers to binge drinking before Thanksgiving.
The San Antonio Police Department and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office shared some shocking DWI numbers.
Police say there were 85 DWI arrests the week of Thanksgiving in 2022. BCSO has reportedly made 47 DWI arrests since Friday.
If you’re going out to drink on Wednesday, Officer Ricardo Guzman there’s absolutely no reason for you to get behind the wheel.
“There’s no excuses anymore as to why you don’t have a sober ride. You have so many rideshare apps, you can call a cab, or you can have a designated sober driver. There’s no excuses anymore,” said Officer Guzman.SAPD saw the most DWI arrests in November and December in 2022. Officer Guzman said SAPD will have extra officers on patrol to crack down on drunk driving.
