Bakersfield high school students learn, participate in process of local government
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield high school students got a chance to see how local government works Wednesday.
City officials hosted the 68th annual Bakersfield Teen Government Day where students from 21 high schools got a quick orientation in the City Council chambers at City Hall. Those students then spent the morning on the job with city employees and visited departments like police, fire, development services, water resources and others.
"It's really interesting to see how–as a whole–our city operates and learn a little bit more about our local government, which is so important in this day and age," Quin Lanray, a Frontier High School student, said.
The students then participated in city government by sitting with elected and appointed leaders during Wednesday evening's City Council meeting.
