An international student has been killed while standing outside his home after his best mate allegedly drove into him when he hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

Ismail Hossain, 25, was at his Wiley Park home in Sydney 's south-west shortly after midnight on Monday when Nasir Uddin, 24, pulled into the driveway.

It's alleged that Uddin went to reverse the Toyota Corolla but instead hit the accelerator.

He was later charged with negligent driving occasioning death and appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Monday afternoon, where he was granted bail.

The court heard that Mr Hossain attended his friend's home late Sunday night to return a bicycle he'd borrowed for work.

Police facts allege the 25-year-old then went to greet the group of friends from Bangladesh who live at the Cornelia Street home.

Mr Hossain was at the home about 12.15am when he went outside to park his red Toyota Camry in the front yard.

As he headed back towards the house, Uddin allegedly pulled into the driveway and attempted to park his Toyota Corolla.

It's alleged during the manoeuvre Uddin drove his car into Mr Hossain.

'The momentum pushed [Mr Hossain] into the corner wall of the residence, pinning him, causing major head injury,' police's fact sheet alleges, according to the Sydney Morning Herald .

'Police believe the accused accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.'

Police allege Uddin then reversed his car several metres following the collision.

Their friends rushed outside after they heard a loud crash where they found Mr Hossain lying on the ground and Uddin in the front yard.

Neighbours also rushed to their aid.

'We just heard a loud noise, like hitting a house, so we get outside and we saw someone else crying," a witness told Nine News.

Emergency crews raced to the scene but were unable to revive Mr Hossain.

He and Uddin were both Bangladeshi international students who were understood to be long-time friends.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist police.

Police arrested Uddin and took him to hospital for mandatory testing before he was taken to Campsie police station, where he was charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

He appeared in Parramatta Bail Court today where he was granted bail on a $2000 surety.

He had to surrender his passport and report to police daily as part of his bail conditions.

Uddin will appear in Bankstown Local Court on October 15.
