Batavia girl's 'I'm shooting up the school tmrw' post leads to disorderly conduct charge

A Walnut Hills High School student arrested Sept. 11 after officials say she made a school shooting threat has been charged in Clermont County Juvenile Court with disorderly conduct.

The charge is a misdemeanor, and because juvenile court focuses on rehabilitation instead of punishment, the student, a 16-year-old girl, likely doesn't face being detained in a youth facility.

A complaint filed Thursday gives some new details about the nature of the threat.

The teen posted the shooting threat from her home in Batavia at about 7 p.m. on Sept. 10. It was a "selfie" photo with the caption, "I'm shooting up the school tmrw," according to the complaint.

It was posted to a group chat and was viewable by approximately eight or nine people, the complaint says.

The post was immediately flagged by Snapchat, and the teen's account was deactivated. Snapchat notified the FBI, according to a police report, and the agency identified the student.

The girl admitted making the post, according to the complaint, and told law enforcement that she was trying to get "a response from a friend."

Neither the school nor Cincinnati police received any calls or emails regarding the teen's Snapchat post.

A hearing for the teen is set for Oct. 7.

The student is suspended and will be recommended for expulsion, Cincinnati Public Schools officials have previously said.

A Mariemont High School student charged earlier this year after making a school shooting threat on Snapchat had to complete community service and write a letter.
