Bears weather triple overtime storm from Golden Hurricanes

SPRINGFIELD–MSU Men's basketball is another program on campus trying to prove itself. With Cuonzo Martin back at the helm, his task of building a winner with a completely new roster will have it's trials and tribulations. And that was on full display this afternoon at the vault. Despite leading tulsa by 13 points with exactly 4-and-a-half minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the bears killer instinct didn't kick in, so the golden hurricanes stormed back to force overtime. And in ot, despite being up 3 in the waning seconds, tulsa's braeden carrington hit a half-court prayer at the buzzer to force double overtime! At this point, bears fans probably thought this one might get away. When this kinda stuff happens it usually doesn't end well for the team that originally had that big lead. But mercifully, of the 95 combined free throws shot in this game, chase martin, vincent brady the 2nd, and michael osay-bonsu knocked them down when it counted to help the bears hold on and survive, winning 111-106. "Like you guys know, we have 15 new guys on this team, and that Tulsa team returns eight or nine guys from the team before," Bears guard Chase Martin said. "And so we're playing against Butler teams that bring back a lot of players and we're playing against a Tulsa team, a good Tulsa team that brings back a lot of players, so it just shows us that we can hang with anybody in the country as long as we play together, we play our brand of basketball, we play tough and we play physical. Cuz when we play physical and tough we assert our will and we can really dictate whatever game we're in
