Berlin's popular street food, the döner kebab, arrives in St. Paul
For the past eight years, a small St. Paul restaurant nestled among locally owned shops has been a destination for Mediterranean flavor.
The venture at the Selby and Snelling avenues intersection began with Angelo Giovanis' authentic Greek eatery, The Naughty Greek, which proclaimed it offered "the best you can get this side of Athens."
The Naughty Greek restaurants sold last year and became Spicy Feta , a halal Mediterranean rotisserie influenced by Afghan, Turkish and Greek family recipes.
The Spicy Feta team last month transformed their Snelling Avenue location into a brand new concept, The Naughty Döner Co., where a time-honored Turkish dish popularized in Germany as a modern street food has arrived in Minnesota.
The sandwiches, ubiquitous in Berlin, are made with a Turkish flatbread called pide, which is toasted and then stuffed with shaved meat, fresh vegetables and sauces.
According to chef-owner Yamah Sadozai, The Naughty Döner Co. is the first authentic German/Turkish döner kebab concept in Minnesota.
Döner kebab sandwiches and flatbread wraps are available in three varieties -German, Turkish and Greek - and feature either beef, chicken or falafel.
