Big changes ahead with widespread rain Monday, followed by below average temperatures

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hope you got to enjoy your Sunday as we have been spoiled this fall with unseasonably warm temperatures, unfortunately that is about to change. Temperatures tonight fall into the mid 30's in the Tri-Cities, upper 20's out west near North Platte, but a bit warmer in southeast Nebraska with temperatures in the low 40s' where we will start to see Monday's storm system move in. Rain moves in early Monday with moderate to heavy rain through most of the morning. We could see some breaks in the rain in the afternoon with some on and off showers, but late afternoon and early evening heavier rain moves back in before the whole system moves out that night. When it comes to amounts we are looking at around 1 to 1.5 inches in the Tri-Cities, with localized amounts around 2 inches in eastern parts of the Tri-Cities and areas to the east. The biggest question mark is how much rain will fall west of highway 281 as we are still unsure how far west the heavier band of rain will go. Still expecting over a half of an inch of rain in Kearney and absolutely could see an inch or more, but the chances of seeing more than an inch of rain increase the further east you are. Winds pick up tomorrow with this system with winds around 15 to 20 mph expected with some gusts around 25 to 30 mph possible. Temperatures also likely to stay cool in the upper 40's with some 50's east of the Tri-Cities.

Winds pick up even more Tuesday with winds around 20 to 30 mph and gusts near 40 mph possible as temperatures stay in the upper 40's. Mostly cloudy skies Tuesday will clear out Wednesday as we expect another windy day on Wednesday. Temperatures dip a bit into the low to mid 40's for Wednesday and overnight lows in the 20's are likely.

Winds calm down to end the work week but chilly weather is still expected. Temperatures in the mid to upper 40's stick around into next weekend as the last Husker home game of the year looks to be a chilly one. Breezy conditions return to end the weekend as temperatures make an attempt to reach the 50's once again.
