NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — Democratic incumbent Bill Keating has won the race for Massachusetts' 9th Congressional District seat, 12 News projects.

Keating defeated Republican Dan Sullivan.

Keating, 72, was first elected in 2010 and is known for his focus on foreign affairs. He is the top Democrat on the House panel that oversees American foreign policy toward Europe.

The 9th District includes New Bedford and its surrounding communities.
