Sports Bills' Josh Allen 'Proud' Of 'Hidden' Part of Win Over Jets

The Buffalo Bills escaped MetLife Stadium with a 23-20 win over the New York Jets to firmly take control of the AFC East, and they have a new-look run game to thank.

Without James Cook, who is nursing a toe injury, Buffalo enlisted the services of Ty Johnson and called up rookie Ray Davis from the practice squad, and the pair proved their worth.

Davis, in particular, was a shining light in the win, rushing for 97 yards on 20 carries, which included a barnstorming start with 48 yards from six carries on Buffalo's first offensive drive. Davis would also have three receptions for 55 yards on what was a superb night.

Johnson was used sparingly, having just four rushing attempts, but he managed a cool 34 yards with the Jets having no answer early for the run game.

"Proud of how Ty [Johnson] and Ray Ray [Davis] stepped up in the run game," quarterback Josh Allen said . "I thought our guys blocked their tails off in the pass game, I think we got it to quite a few different guys and first half was very good and we got to find a way in that second half to keep that momentum going. A lot to learn, got a little sloppy there at the end, some penalties, but it was a team win."

With Davis emerging from the hidden shadows at MetLife, the potential in the Buffalo backfield, once Cook returns, is a tantalizing prospect.

Allen only had 25 passing attempts in the win over New York, as offensive coordinator Joe Brady had a good mix of plays all night to keep the Jets guessing.

Both Davis and Johnson showed that they could warrant more carries going forward, and in Davis' case, he might have proven to be an ample backup to Cook.
