Birmingham sports teams host the ‘BHM 5 Food Drive’
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT) — Five teams in Birmingham are partnering up to fight hunger in central Alabama.
The Birmingham Stallions, Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Bulls, Birmingham Legion FC and Birmingham Squadron are hosting the "BHM 5 Food Drive" from Nov. 7 to Nov. 25.
"Legion FC is excited to participate in the BHM5 Food Drive again! This is a great opportunity to join other Birmingham teams to make a positive impact in our community," Legion FC President Jay Heaps said in a statement.
"Giving back to the community that supports us is paramount to who we are as a team," said Birmingham Squadron general manager Leslie Claybrook. "Partnering with the other local professional sports teams is something special to us as we continue to build here in the Magic City."
The participating teams will deliver donated items to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama on Nov. 27.
"I am so grateful we are uniting once again to help those who are struggling with food scarcity and bring awareness to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. We need all the Stallions' fans and Birmingham sports fans to come together and help us fill up a truckload of much-needed food items to donate during this holiday season," said Birmingham Stallions Head Coach Skip Holtz.

Here are the drop-off locations for food donations:
Eventive Sports.
Cahaba Brewing Company — Nov. 14, 5- 7 p.m.
Birmingham Squadron Front Office.
Birmingham Legion FC Front Office and Team Store.
Barons Sports Depot.
Pelham Civic Complex — Nov. 22, 7 p.m.
The Community Foodbank of Central Alabama also accepts donations year-round.
"The Bulls have had a wonderful relationship with CFOCA over the past few seasons. We are super excited to be working together with them and with all the pro sports organizations in Birmingham," David Koonce, Vice President of Communications for the Birmingham Bulls, said in a statement. "It speaks volumes for the city that all the teams can work together for an incredible cause that gives back to the community that has supported them for so many years."
Here's a list of the most-needed items in the food drive:
Canned meat.
Canned vegetables.
Canned fruit and applesauce.
Canned or boxed meals.
Boxed mac and cheese.
Potato flakes.
Peanut butter.
Canned or dried beans, peas, lentils, etc.
Past, rice and quinoa.
Breakfast cereals, oatmeal and grits.
Shelf-stable milk.
Other healthy, low-fat, low-sodium and low-sugar products.

The food bank requests that people avoid bringing sodas, candy, junk food, alcoholic beverages, homemade items, open/used items, items in glass containers or perishable products.
"The Barons have always aimed to be active community partners and to be able to jointly work with all our Birmingham sports teams is quite a wonderful opportunity in having a unified goal and ultimately helping those in need," said Jonathan Nelson, Birmingham Barons President & General Manager.
The Community Foodbank of Central Alabama supplies millions of meals per year to over 230 partner agencies across central Alabama.
