Blaze destroys rural Coal Valley barn

A Thursday night blaze destroyed a barn on the 10000 block of 80th Street in rural Coal Valley.

Our Quad Cities News crew saw firefighters still on the scene at 8:30 p.m. after the structure collapsed. The fire started about 7 p m.

Trucks had to deliver water to the area, and had to maneuver around other fire trucks on the narrow road.

Crews from Coal Valley, Colona, Coyne Center, Blackhawk Fire Protection District, Carbon Cliff, Barstow Fire Protection District, Moline Second Alarmers, and Rock Island County Sheriff's Office were at the scene.

We do not know the cause of the fire. We will stay in contact with firefighters to provide details when they become available.

The Philippine government said Wednesday its law enforcement agencies will be bound to cooperate if the International Criminal Court seeks the custody of former President Rodrigo Duterte as part of an investigation into thousands of deaths during his crackdown on illegal drugs. The Hague-based court has been investigating the widespread killings that took place while Duterte was mayor of the southern Philippine city of Davao and later as president from 2016 to 2020, as a possible crime against humanity. Human rights groups estimate the deaths could exceed 20,000 during Duterte's presidency alone.

Some evidence that a federal judge had excluded from the bribery trial of former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez was inadvertently put on a computer given to jurors, federal prosecutors revealed Wednesday, though they insisted it should have no effect on the Democrat's conviction.
