Boston Boy, 16, Dead Days After Being Injured In House Fire
The boy, Mario Evans, was rescued along with five adults and three other children during the early morning blaze, but was the only victim critically injured, WHDH reported .
According to a GoFundMe campaign set up on behalf of the family, the family had lived in the home for over twenty years when it was destroyed.
"Now the Pierre/Evans family faces the unimaginable task of mourning their beloved (Super) Mario as they lovingly referred to him, all while needing to rebuild their lives from scratch," the organizer wrote. "Their home which held cherished memories of a family now lost, is uninhabitable and beyond repair."
Match High School also shared a tribute to Mario from a staff member who worked closely with Mario and his family.
"Mario was a beloved member of the Match community who brightened the lives of students and staff alike. He was a vibrant presence—kind, caring, and observant," the statement began. "He had an incredible ability to make those around him feel included; he was always the first to greet you as you entered a room. His teachers and classmates will remember his humor, often having inside jokes with various people around the building. He was a beautiful friend and classmate, always cheering on others in class and generous with high-fives and fist bumps. Mario's impact will be everlasting for many, and our deepest condolences are with his mother, father, younger brothers, and his family."
As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe campaign had raised $6,500 of its $15,000 goal.
