A hotel worker has been praised for helping a guest who was in danger. Jodie Offen escorted a woman to safety and called the police after a man became violent at the site in Hull on 11 June 2023. Ms Offen was honoured for her courage at the national Police Public Bravery Awards, which took place at The Cutlers' Hall in Sheffield on 14 November. The awards celebrate members of the public who have protected others and prevented crime. Ms Offen had been working a night shift on reception when the arrival of two guests, a man and woman, sparked her concerns. She made several trips to their room to check on the woman and, during one, heard she was in distress. After knocking on the door and being told by the woman that she was not OK, Ms Offen stood between the woman and man, who then became violent. She escorted the woman to the staff room and called the police. The man was later sentenced to a restraining order.
