Bronco Rally features activity on off-roading safety

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - With all the fun events that go on at the Sturgis Bronco Rally, there's an activity at the Buffalo Chip that's focusing more on safety and recovery.

Friday, a group of Bronco enthusiasts were getting instruction on the importance of safety out on the trails.

The purpose is to teach drivers what to do when they may end up stuck in ditches when off-roading.

People were given lessons on how to hook a wench to a rig, towing when using their Broncos and how to properly use recovery equipment while taking proper safety measures.

An experienced off-road driver says trail ratings keep drivers mindful of the type of safety equipment they should carry in the case of an emergency situation.

"There's many different trails out there, so that trail rating will basically tell you what you need for equipment as per locking differentials, larger tires, lift kits. All the stuff available for the Ford Bronco," Bronco enthusiast Mike Jongling said.

Jongling added, there are plenty of off-roading Bronco clubs around the Black Hills for anyone seeking some off-roading fun.

The Bronco Rally continues Saturday with the show and shine in downtown Sturgis and the parade from Sturgis out to the Buffalo Chip.
