ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Diego Ibarra, the brother of the man charged in the death of former University of Georgia student Laken Riley earlier this year, is set to be sentenced Monday on charges he possessed a fake immigration document.

Diego Ibarra is facing one count of possession of counterfeit immigration document. He is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced at 10 a.m. by U.S. District Judge Tilman E. Self III in Athens.

Diego Ibarra's brother is Jose Ibarra, who is suspected of killing Riley, whose body was found on the UGA campus on Feb. 22, 2024.

Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, faces several charges — including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another — in connection to Riley's death. He has been denied bond.

Neither brother are in the United States legally, officials confirmed.

Riley was a student at Augusta University's College of Nursing in Athens.
