Brownsville Planners say no to an industrial zone request City Board gets final say
Will Brownsville's expand property zoned for industrial use?
Not right away— if the Board of Mayor and Alderman follow the recommendation of its Planning Board. Planners said no to a request to rezone 38 acres owned by William Howse. The property is near the intersection of Windrow Road and the Bypass and is currently zoned High Density Residential (R-3). Howse is requesting the land be zoned General Industrial. The acreage is just east of the I-40 Advantage Industrial Park. There are two single-family homes located on Windrow Road near the tract.
Brownsville Planner Shelton Merrell asked the board to consider the impact the expansion of industrial zoned property would have on the home values.
While Planners recommend the tract not be rezoned, the Brownsville City Board has final say. They will likely consider it in November.
