Building where Parkland school shooting happened fully torn down

After more than six years, the site in Parkland where 17 people lost their lives to a school shooter has been fully demolished.

Crews have completed tearing down the 1200 building on the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. They , when a crane began pulling down sections of the three-story structure, which had been known as the freshman building.

The building stood for so long because of the trials of the shooter and a former school resource officer required it to be preserved for evidence. When work began, many people, including family members of those lost that day or the 17 others who were injured, came out to witness its demolition.

Right now, there is no plan for what will replace the building. Off-site memorials are in the works, but the Parkland community has struggled to find the right answer to the question, 'what can live in the spot that brought so much hurt?'

Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter Alyssa was a victim in the shooting, became a school board member in Broward County. She says she envisions a field space where activities can happen - for the extracurricular clubs and teams the victims' loved. She also talked about the changes in policy and security that have been implemented on the heels of Parkland.
