Duluth Mayor S.F. Snively announced the city received a gift of 20 acres of land in the Stewart Creek Valley from Thomas H. Martin, who purchased the gift after being impressed by its natural beauty. The land cost $2,000.

More than 7,000 people from 42 states and several foreign countries visited the new mining museum in Chisholm. The museum, still in its early stage, is being built on a 13-acre plot of ground within the city's Memorial Park.

Superior City Councilor Joseph Mihalek said Police Chief Robert Bennett "openly and blatantly" violated the city's smoking ordinance by smoking during a City Council meeting with another officer. Mihalek said he was in his rights to smoke since the meeting was in recess, but there is no designated smoking section in the council chambers.
