Sports Calls Mount for Major College Football Program to Dismiss Head Coach

The Week 4 college football slate featured an incredible game on Friday night. While many fans are awaiting big-time matchups on Saturday, there were a few exciting contests.

Two of the biggest games on Friday were the Syracuse Orange taking on the Stanford Cardinals in the dome, and the Nebraska Cornhuskers hosting the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Nebraska's primetime matchup was carried into extra innings. Following a second-half collapse by the Cornhuskers, Nebraska lost the game 31-24 in overtime.

After Nebraska's first loss of the season, college football fans were giving Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule an earful.

Many fans believe Rhule should be fired from his position with Nebraska. With the loss to No. 24 Illinois, Rhule fell to 2-20 in his career against ranked opponents.

"Not good. I like Rhule but not being able to win big games is going to call your job into question." said one fan.

"It's over...nice run Rhule, but we're screwed, same mentality as we've had the past 15 years," said another fan.

"#FireRhule," commented another fan.

"Fire RHule NOW this is a JOKE," mentioned one fan.

"Overrated. Fire Rhule," said one fan.

"You call pass on 3rd down and dont go for it lol. Fire Rhule," said another fan.

Rhule started his tenure with the Cornhuskers in 2023. Last season, Nebraska earned a 5-7 record under Rhule. They seemed to be taking a massive step forward in 2024, but Rhule's constant struggles against ranked opponents came back to haunt him.

The Cornhuskers started the season with wins against UTEP, Colorado, and UNI, all of which were in dominant fashion.

While Rhule is an experienced coach, who held previous head coaching positions with the Baylor Bears and Carolina Panthers in the NFL, an improvement needs to be made, according to fans.

The Cornhuskers still have a few ranked opponents on the horizon. They're set to play the Ohio State Buckeyes and USC Trojans later on this seaosn.

Nebraska may be a bit inexperienced on the field with freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola leading the way, but fans believe Rhule isn't putting the Cornhuskers in a position to be successful against high-level competition.
