Candidates backed by conservative groups defeated in Hamilton County school board races
Candidates backed by conservative groups in Hamilton County school board races were defeated by their opponents, unofficial results from the county election office show.
Voters Tuesday cast their ballots for about 800 school board seats across the state and party politics once again played a role in Carmel, Fishers and Noblesville — despite these elections officially being nonpartisan.
As of 10:43 p.m., all Hamilton County precincts had reported results. IndyStar has called the school board races based on the unofficial results provided by the Hamilton County Election Office.

Shapiro, Wheeler win Carmel Clay School Board race
Jon Shapiro and Kristina (Kris) Wheeler, endorsed by the "nonpartisan" political action committee Support CCS, defeated their conservative opponents in Carmel Clay School Board race for two at-large seats.
Robin Clark and Dina Ferchmin, were endorsed by the "conservative" political action committee Carmel Excellence .

Candidates backed by conservative group defeated in Hamilton Southeastern School Board race
Candidates backed by the the local conservative group, Fishers One , were defeated in the races for Hamilton Southeastern School Board's Delaware Township, Fall Creek Township and Wayne Township seats.
The results come just two years after a slate of candidates backed by Fishers One swept their four opponents, taking control of the school board .
Two candidates ran for each seat on the seven-member board in this election. Conservatives will continue to hold the majority even though moderate candidates Sarah Parks-Reese and Latrica Schooley defeated their conservative opponents.
The conservatives in this election that were backed by Fishers One were Greg Lannan, Terry Tolle and John Stewart.
Incumbents Parks-Reese and Suzanne Thomas, as well as newcomer Schooley were endorsed by the Hamilton Southeastern Education Association. The teacher's union is generally aligned with Democrats, though Thomas is a self-described conservative who has voted with the majority on several issues.

Moderate candidates win the Noblesville School Board election
Three moderate candidates for Noblesville School Board's at-large seats won.
Six candidates ran on two opposing slates of three candidates — one slate was conservative and the other was moderate. The top three candidates with the most votes were elected.
The conservatives, Brad Helvey, David Dawson and Alison Hanley, were endorsed by the Indiana Family Action PAC , while the moderates Christi Crosser, Stephanie Lambert and Bret Richardson, were endorsed by the Noblesville Teachers Forum.
