Car engulfed in flames on I70

MESA COUNTY, Colo. ( KREX ) – On Sunday afternoon, a vehicle – traveling on Interstate 70 near Fruita – became fully engulfed in flames.

Lower Valley Fire Protection District responded to the call and saw the blaze spread to nearby brush. Crews completely extinguished the fire and "ensured the safety of all involved." No one was injured, but the vehicle was a total loss.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.

The car was traveling west when the fire began. Both westbound lanes were temporarily closed so crews could tackle the fire.

Three people were hurt aboard a single-engine plane that crashed Sunday near a Southern California dragstrip where fans were gathered for the finals of a racing event, authorities said. At least two parked vehicles on the ground were struck when the Piper PA-32 crashed around 11:40 a.m. near the dragstrip in Pomona, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of downtown Los Angeles, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
