On Election Day, CBP stopped over 11,000 bullets from entering the country through a border crossing in central El Paso.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, officers seized 11,100 rounds of 7.62 ammunition on Tuesday at the Bridge of the Americas port of entry, the largest ammunition bust at the bridge since August, when officers thwarted a smuggling attempt of over 93,000 rounds.

CBP said officers found the ammunition hidden inside the quarter panels of a 2011 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck after a preliminary scan revealed anomalies in the appearance of the vehicle. Officers then performed a second and third search using dogs that can sniff out money and firearms and an X-ray scan and discovered multiple plastic bags of loose ammunition.

The driver, a 32-year-old Mexican man, was arrested, charged with smuggling goods, and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
