A nonprofit is building a new facility in York County.

The Children's Aid Society is building a 15,368-square-foot facility on West Poplar Street in York on an empty lot previously used as the parking lot for Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. The new facility will be called the Werner Early Learning Childcare Center. The nonprofit will transition services from its current location on West Market Street in York.

The $5 million Werner Early Learning Childcare Center will offer a range of services including a crisis respite nursery, traditional childcare, family advocacy, parent education, support groups, a 24-hour caregiver hotline, and a gently used children's clothing and toy bank.

The new building will allow the Children's Aid Society to expand its crisis nursery and offer third-shift childcare services.

Wagman Construction is the general contractor for the project.

Wagman Construction and the Children's Aid Society held a ceremonial beam signing on Sept. 11 at the site of the future Children's Aid Society's Werner Early Learning Childcare Center.

"We are proud to contribute to a project that will have such a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families," Jan Wagner, president at Wagman Construction, said in a news release.

The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

The Children's Aid Society Southern PA District serves children and their families in York, Adams, and Franklin counties.
