Central Texas Food Bank supplying record number of turkeys to people in need
The Central Texas Food Bank is providing a record number of Thanksgiving meals to 30,000 people in need.
Each year, the Central Texas Food Bank provides Thanksgiving meals to people in need within their 21-county service area. This year, President and CEO, Sari Vatske, said they will be providing 30,000 turkeys and meals to people in need.
"Food is community. Food can be love, and without food, you can't bring people together in a community," she said. "It's hard to have a great Thanksgiving conversation around a table without food."
Each meal includes a turkey, fresh produce, beans, and dessert. Vatske said it's all hands on deck to package these meals.
"We want to make sure we're finding families that are in need of assistance, and that nobody goes without this holiday," she said.
Vatske said it's important for people to understand what others may be going through this holiday season.
"It's a double-edged sword," she said. "We're disheartened by the need that continues to grow, but we're also heartened that we're a part of the solution."
