Chemical spill at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Sentara Obici Hospital said patient care was not affected following a chemical spill Tuesday evening. According to Sentara spokesperson Dale Gauding, "three gallons of a chemical fixative, formalin, spilled in a storage room at Sentara Obici Hospital. Suffolk Fire Department was notified out of an abundance of caution. Our environmental services team and a contractor are cleaning up the spill. Patient care is unaffected. We appreciate the prompt response by our team members and Suffolk's first responders." Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the chemical spill at the hospital at 7:46 p.m., with units arriving five minutes later.
