Chicago police seek suspects in armed robberies at construction sites

CHICAGO – Chicago police are searching for a crew believed to be responsible for two armed robberies at construction sites in North Lawndale.

Police said the two robberies happened less than half a mile from each other in broad daylight.

The first incident happened on Sept. 11 in the 1300 block of South Homan. Four days later, what's believed to be the same group of suspects struck again, this time in the 3200 block of West 16th Street.

In the first incident, a trio of armed thieves ran up on construction workers as they were preparing to pour concrete at a property being rehabbed. The suspects reportedly forced the workers to hand over their cell phones so they couldn't call 911.

Nearby home surveillance video captured at least one suspect ransacking the cab of the truck before the group of thieves made their getaway.

A worker at the construction site Saturday said the suspects stole tools, but they're glad nobody was injured during the robbery.

Some neighbors said it was surprising to hear of people being targeted just by coming to work.

Police said the second incident involved up to four suspects matching the same description as the suspects from the first incident.

The suspects allegedly approached two women and five men and demanded property at gunpoint. The victims complied and the suspects then drove off in a gray Nissan Murano.

CPD said they believe the suspects are between the ages of 20 and 26, standing anywhere from 5'5′′ to 6'0′′. The suspects were armed with handguns, including one that may have had a red handle. They were also wearing dark clothes, hooded sweatshirts, and face masks.
