Chip shop launches its fried Christmas dinner with bizarre twist on festive family meals

A chip shop has launched a mouth-watering deep-fried Christmas dinner featuring battered turkey, pigs in blankets and Brussels sprouts.

The festive feast is brainstormed by Cromars Classic Fish and Chips in St Andrews, Scotland, and is expected to have all the trimmings.

Pigs-in-blankets and stuffing balls will also be battered and served on chips along with tubs of gravy and cranberry sauce.

But, although the £15 blow-out may be too good to resist, weighing in at a belt-busting 1,500 calories it might not be the best option for anyone aiming to stay lean this festive season.

Described as 'a playful twist on a traditional Christmas dinner' the battered bonanza will be on offer throughout December.

Not only will the dinner feature an array of savory deep-fried delights but it will also have a sweet treat available for those left with room for dessert.

Cromars are offering their own Christmassy take on the iconic deep-fried Mars bar in the form of a battered mince pie.

This crispy, golden pudding is served with warm custard and can be paired with a rich hot chocolate with a shot of Baileys Irish Cream.

Wendy Napthine-Frame, owner of the award-winning chip shop shared her excitement about the launch.

She said: 'We love finding new and novel ways to excite our customers by reinventing traditional fish and chip shop dishes.

'Following the success of our dog-friendly menu earlier this year, we're confident our customers will enjoy our festive menu, which puts a fun, crispy, golden twist on a family-favourite tradition and brings a little Christmas cheer to the holiday celebrations.'

After being raised in Peterhead, the largest landing port for fish in the UK, Ms Napthine-Frame has fishing in her blood and has a large extended family all working in the industry.

Earlier this year, the fish and chip shop became the first to launch dishes especially for dogs.

The cheap £2 menu includes beef sausages and 'puppuccinos'.

Cromars is open until 17:00 on December 23 before closing for the holidays, reopening its doors on December 27.
