City of Reno offering discounted trees to residents

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The City of Reno says it is providing discounted trees to residents as part of ReLEAF Reno.

Reno residents can reserve a tree here for $26, which the city says is a savings compared to the average retail cost of $75. 75% of the cost is subsidized by ReLEAF Reno.

The tree will be available for pickup at Idlewild Park maintenance park on Nov. 2 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. As part of the sign-up process, residents must agree to properly maintain the tree, including having an automatic watering system in place.

"We are so proud to continue to offer this program to our residents and play a part in our commitment to a greener healthier world," said Reno City Councilmember Naomi Duerr, who launched the ReLEAF Reno program in 2016. "These trees are not only a gift to an individual resident, but for the entire community. Our trees help reduce our carbon footprint, keep us cool, filter pollution and more."

Tree species growing to a wide variety of sizes will be offered, and are as follows:

  • Valley Oak
  • Palo Alto Sweetgum
  • Blue Oak
  • Shantung Maple
  • Oklahoma Redbud
  • Prairiefire Crabapple
  • Barlett Pear
  • Redhaven Peach
  • Incense Cedar
