Citywide leaf pickup coming to Elmira in November
ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) — The City of Elmira on Monday put out guidelines for the city's leaf pickup event and advised residents what they can do before the date arrives.
Bulk leaf pickup starts on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and will run until Dec. 20. Officials are asking residents to rake leaves to an area between the curb and the sidewalk for pickup by city crews. If your area doesn't have a sidewalk, rake the leaves as close to the curb or street as possible. If your area doesn't have a lawn between the curb and sidewalk, rake the leaves to the curb line, but not into the street.
Residents who don't want to wait for the cleanup can take leaves to the city compost site for drop-off but are asked to remove bags when dropping the leaves off.
No leaves will be picked up before or after the set dates, if you wish to have leaves disposed of outside of the scheduled times, you'll have to use the compost sites or the Dial-A-Truck Programs.

During the scheduled pickups, the city will be split up into six sections with two to three city crews with a leaf pusher and loader to pick up the leaves and two to three dump trucks per crew.
Officials announced that leaf pickup will happen on every street in Elmira at least twice during the scheduled time frame. The city asks that residents not wait until the last two weeks to put leaves out.

The facility is free to city residents with hours for the compost center being Tuesday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
