Close races in Andover on Election Day

ANDOVER - Very narrow races were run in Andover during Tuesday's elections.

The election for president was separated by just one vote in Andover: voters selected Kamala Harris with 1,055 votes, while Donald Trump received 1,054 votes. Green Party candidate Jill Stein took 9 votes, while Libertarian Chase Oliver received 6 votes. Robert Kennedy Jr., who withdrew his petitioning candidacy after the ballots had been printed, received 12 votes. None of the write-in candidates received any votes.

It was also a tight race for the state senatorial seat race for the 4th district, between Democratic incumbent MD Rahman and Republican challenger Stephen King. King received 992 votes, but Rahman took 999 votes as the Democratic candidate and another 57 votes from his Working Families party cross-endorsement.

Another close race was for the state house seat for the 55th district between incumbent Republican Steve Weir and Democratic challenger Amanda Veneziano, who was also endorsed by the Working Families and the Independent parties. She received 842 as the Democratic candidate, 30 as the Working Families candidate and 20 as the Independent candidate, but Weir won Andover with 1,173 votes.

It wasn't a race, but the two candidates for the Registrar of Voters positions had similar numbers. Democrat Linda Derick will return to serve as the Democratic registrar with 1,013 votes, and Republican Wallace Barton was re-elected as the Republican registrar with 1, 017 votes.

For the US Senate seat and the US House seat, voters leaned toward incumbency. Democratic incumbent Senator Christopher Murphy received 1,003 votes, while Republican challenger took 1,000 votes, but Murphy also received another 57 votes as the Working Families party's endorsed candidate. Cheaper Gas and Groceries Party candidate Robert Finley Hyde received 15 votes, Green Party candidate Justin Paglino got 12 votes, and write-in candidate John Flynn had no votes.

Democratic incumbent Congressman Joe Courtney earned 1,107 votes, while Republican challenger Mike France tallied 970 votes. Write-in candidates Kenneth Kusmierski, Jr. and Jeffrey Russell had zero votes.

All vote tallies are unofficial.

Andover residents also voted on the changes to the town's charter while at the polls Tuesday.
