Coast Guard searching for missing boater near Terrebonne Parish

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man after his boat was found empty near Terrebonne Parish on Wednesday, Oct.16.

Coast Guard officials reported that watch standers were notified about an overdue boater near Lake Chien by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office around 8:40 p.m.

A response boat and aircrews were then dispatched to the area to search for the boater, a 66-year-old man.

According to the Coast Guard, a nearby boater found the man's boat with no one on it.

Coast Guard officials said a search is underway, and Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans aircrews, Station Grand Isle boat crews, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are assisting.
