Coleen Rooney revealed the key to making her marriage work as she opened up about her ups and downs with Wayne. The couple - who have been married for 16 years - have been dogged by reports of Wayne's infidelity during his football career, with him previously apologising for visiting brothels. During a chat with Fearne Cotton on her Happy Place podcast, the 38-year-old WAG explained how they got through the tough times, sharing: 'Sometimes you might have to, you could draw draw a line under and say this is it, but with me Wayne I've always said there was always love still there. 'So why throw it away when you can work at it? If you work at it and it doesn't work then you know forget about it then and go your own separate ways, but there's always been love there. 'We've never wanted to part but situations are set in where we it could have happened, and you know, we we might not have got through it.' Coleen continued: 'But we have and that's the way I've got to look at it and hopefully that's it, you know it's going to be a nice smooth sailing marriage...' The mother-of-four previously revealed that she nearly ended her marriage when Wayne was seen driving home with party girl Laura Simpson after a night out. In 2017, Wayne was pulled over by police and found to be three times the drink drive limit while driving Laura's car, who he met in a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. Yet in her chat with Fearne, she explained how she and Wayne worked through their problems, revealing communication has been key. 'Just get it out on the table', she explained. 'There's no point in keeping it in because that's where you get yourself all worked up. 'I've seen that happen to so many people, even with the kids I say get it out deal with it get your punishment done and then move on. 'Sometimes people don't like to hear the truth and it can cause arguments but you know you've just got to work through it.' Coleen also spoke about the importance of spending quality time together away from their four sons: Kai, 14, Klay, 10, Kit, eight, and Cass, five. 'I've always made time for me and Wayne to go - you know if he's got a couple of days off - a couple of times throughout the year we'll go away and just have time together.' Talking about the longevity of their romance, Coleen went on: 'Growing up with each other you know we've known each other from a young age... when I look now I was 16 and having my son nearly 15 I think, I was only a baby I was so young. 'But we've grown up together, we've gone through the hard times together, we've gone through good times together, and we know each other well. 'I know that sounds like but you you find some couples and they don't actually know each other that well. 'We're a team and we've helped each other through life and there's things that - we're good at seeing the the the better outcome rather than the worst.' Wayne and Coleen's 20-year relationship has been marred with various cheating scandals - with the footballer making national headlines when he was found to have visited three prostitutes as a teenager. In 2004 after Wayne, then aged 18, moved to Manchester United, it was discovered that the teenager paid £140 for sex with prostitute Charlotte Glover, 21. It was also claimed that at a brothel in Liverpool he slept with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48. Devastated Coleen stood by her man but didn't comment publicly on the claims - though later admitted that when the scandal came out she hadn't yet slept with Wayne herself. The pair worked through their troubles and wed four years later, though their newlywed bliss was short-lived, as it emerged in 2010 that the footballer had slept with two more prostitutes while Coleen was pregnant with their first son, Kai. More incidences with other women followed in 2017 and 2019, while in 2021 Wayne hit headlines once again after pictures emerged of the star partying and falling asleep in a hotel room with young women. Coleen's interview comes as she gears up to appear on I'm A Celebrity. The TV personality will enter the famous jungle this week and while the campmates close friends and family will fly out to meet their loved ones on the famous bridge, Wayne's busy football schedule will prevent him from being there. The former player is currently the manager of EFL Championship club Plymouth Argyle and is desperate to see results. His team have matches on November 22, 26 and 30 as well as December 7, 10, and 14. Elsewhere, it has been revealed that Coleen will be exempt from certain trials due to medical grounds. The wife of former England and Manchester United footballer Wayne has been ruled out of the gruelling trials due to her reactive arthritis. And the news has drastically affected her odds at winning. Bookies Ladbrookes have revealed that whilst Coleen was initially predicted to be the favourite to win, her odds have been slashed down to 10/1.
