Columbus infant found wedged between mattress, cushions. Parents charged with murder

The parents of an infant have been arrested and charged with murder in the death of their baby, the Columbus Police Department announced Thursday.

Kiara Davis, 27, and Miguel Badillo, 24, are charged with second-degree murder, second-degree child cruelty and possession of drug-related objects. They are scheduled to appear in Recorder's Court for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

According to CPD's news release, police officers responded to a Sept. 27 call regarding a deceased 8-month-old infant at a home in the 4300 block of Rosemont Drive. CPD's Special Victims Unit was called to the scene to lead the investigation.

"Detectives executed a search warrant on the residence and learned that the infant had been placed on an angled mattress on a love seat, with no safety measures in place to prevent the infant from rolling off and becoming wedged between the mattress and couch cushions," the news release says.

Arrest warrants for Davis and Badillo were issued Nov. 8. They were taken into custody Wednesday and transported to the Muscogee County Jail.
