( NewsNation ) — North Carolina Hurricane Helene victims are struggling and feeling forgotten as winter approaches.

Temperatures are dropping, and many hurricane survivors are living in tents or trailers without insulation.

More than 100,000 homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene across Western North Carolina.

Hurricane victims in Swannanoa, North Carolina, told NewsNation's Brian Entin they've lost everything and are "getting no help."

A woman who asked to be identified as Sarah, whose family is now living in a trailer, said her family has to pay an additional $130 per month for a portable toilet. Sarah was hoping to receive disaster assistance from the government, only to be told that funds had run out.

"We already have it so rough and to not be able to get the financial help that we need, it's really awful," Sarah said.

President-elect Donald Trump has been critical of the Biden administration's response to Helene, echoing the complaints of some residents who have said they cannot communicate with FEMA relief workers .

When asked if his criticism of FEMA has been helpful, Trump replied that he and everyone else are entitled to critique people who are not doing the best job.

The former president has also been accused of spreading misinformation about the administration's response, such as clean-up crews avoiding so-called Republican-leaning areas. FEMA says that is not true .

NewsNation's Brian Entin asked FEMA for an interview but was told, "We have limited availability due to our ongoing response."
