Commenting on the good things [letter]

J.Lee9 hr ago

Living in difficult times, it's good to comment and enjoy life when we come across things that are pleasing to us.

I rise today to point out two wonderful places and assign praise for the people responsible for their renewal and rebirth.

The first is a building we pass every Sunday on the way to St. John's Episcopal Church as we slow down for a crosswalk — people going into one of the worship spaces for Lancaster County Bible Church. Never having been inside Liberty Place before its renewal, restoration and repurposing, it is a grand dame if there ever was one. The outside looks like many other nice old properties. Its owners have done a wonderful job of preparing some 140 rental spaces, including 14 churches — the latter in itself might be a miracle. Selah! It is a beautiful home for small businesses, including the barbershop that I previously enjoyed in Neffsville.

When driving to church by another route, we pass or visit the new edition of a beautiful, refurbished, bustling Lancaster General Hospital emergency room. It's supercool, super-efficient and supervised by an amazing staff of smiling people who direct, assist and accompany worried patients to their assigned examining room for medical care.

I'm an octogenarian who interned in 1961 at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, our nation's first hospital, with its mere six plain and lonely examination rooms. At LGH, the courteous, caring, competent staff provide emergency care and, depending how ill we are during the visit, it's almost a pleasure.

Thank God for Lancaster General Hospital.
