An 8th Judicial District Court judge has ordered that Heather Cushman, the Loveland woman accused of killing her father, undergo a competency evaluation before proceeding with her case.

Cushman, 32, appeared before Judge Joseph Findley virtually from the Larimer County Jail on Thursday morning, during which time her attorney, Matt Mulch, requested she undergo a competency evaluation.

Findley scheduled her to return for a status hearing at 10 a.m. Nov. 25.

Cushman was arrested in early September after allegedly stabbing her father, John "Clint" Cushman, to death following an argument at a home on East Sixth Street.

Neighbors described John Cushman as an easy-going and happy person with an interest in cars.

Heather was ultimately charged with second-degree murder of a family member, a class 2 felony. She remains in custody at the jail in Fort Collins on a $2 million cash-only bond.
