CONCORD, CA — With high temperatures anticipated over the next several days, the City of Concord offers a cooling center between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 1-2, at the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle.

The center has air conditioning and comfortable seating. Those visiting the cooling center should plan to bring their own snacks, water and activities, city officials said.

An excessive heat warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Wendesday for Concord and the greater Bay Area. In Concord, the high temperature is expected to reach 107 degrees Tuesday and 108 on Wednesday.

If temperatures remain higher than 100 degrees Thursday, the city may extend the cooling center. In this case, the center would be open from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday to accommodate the already scheduled Health Expo — a free community event taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center.

Concord residents can also beat the heat at Sunvalley Shopping Center, Brenden Theatre or any of the local air-conditioned restaurants or retail stores, city officials said.
