Another storm system is organizing in the Gulf, but so far appears headed for Florida. Throughout this hurricane season, any time a storm's gotten close to us, Houston Matters host Craig Cohen has pulled out a portable Anker brick charger and made sure it's fully charged up and in his bag of tricks, should he find himself without power, and in need of a quick cell phone or laptop charge.

As it turns out, there are bigger, stronger options out there called "power stations" that don't have the carbon monoxide or noise problems of generators, but do much the same thing, albeit on a smaller scale.

In the audio above, we talk with Houston Chronicle tech columnist Dwight Silverman who tells us about power stations the size of carry-on luggage that can be used during extended outages to power portions of your home.

Plus, Silverman also discusses some of his recent purchases, including the new iPhone 16 Pro Max, the new Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the latest Apple Watch.
