Cooler weather has moved into Kansas City, returning temperatures closer to average on Monday and making way for pleasant evening outdoor activities—like a football game.

After a chilly start, the metro will see temperatures climb to around 73 degrees in the afternoon, which is just a couple of degrees higher than the typical 71 degrees this time of year.

"It's going to feel nice outside ," the weather service said.

For football fans headed to Arrowhead Stadium to see the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints football game, the weather should be pleasant, the weather service said.

Temperatures around the 7:15 p.m. kickoff will be in the upper 60s and will fall to the low 60s by the end of the game. Winds will be light, so a light jacket might be warranted. No rain is expected.

Warmer weather ahead

A warming trend will begin on Tuesday and continue throughout the work week. Temperatures will be in the mid-70s on Tuesday and the low to upper 80s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

"As of right now, the hottest day of the week is shaping up to be Friday," the weather service said.

Much of the forecast area will experience temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year. The weather service said dry conditions are expected through the next seven days.

Above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall is likely between Oct. 14 and 20.
