The Hollywood Police Department has identified the man killed by an officer who was responding to the scene of a dispute between neighbors regarding a vandalism that took place earlier this month, authorities say.

On Thursday, authorities identified the man as 48-year-old Juan Wu. Police have yet to name the officer involved.

In a newly released 911 call, a woman can be heard telling an operator she was having problems with a neighbor over a shared fence on Oct. 10.

"Right now, in front of our faces, he hit the fence," she can be heard telling an operator. "When my husband tried to talk to him, he just decided to start shouting at him and cursing him out."

The caller also told the operator that as far as she knew he didn't have any weapons.

At about 9:40 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of North 66th Avenue and Eaton Street and met with the caller.

While an officer was investigating the vandalism, Wu began attacking him and a physical altercation ensued, according to Christian Lata, Hollywood Police spokesperson.

The officer first shot a taser that was ineffective and "in fear of their life" fired a gun at Wu, who was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Police say the officer also was taken to a hospital with injuries but was quickly discharged.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation into the officer's use of force.
