Palm Beach County's Chief Assistant State Attorney got a promotion Tuesday.

With all precincts reporting, Alexcia Cox claimed the win in the race for State Attorney by the narrowest of margins. Following her victory, Cox pledged to be a "leader that everyone can trust."

"This work is not partisan work," she continued. "This is for the community. It's about public safety. It's about public trust and I'm going to be a great attorney for everybody in Palm Beach County."

The unofficial results show the Democrat defeated her Republican opponent Sam Stern by less than 5,300 votes, leaving less than a percentage point between the pair.

Independent candidate Adam Farkas took home nearly 2.5% of the vote.

Cox Background

In addition to her role as Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney, Cox is a member of the Executive Leadership team in the office.

She has prosecuted hundreds of cases, including first-degree murders, domestic violence felonies, elder abuse, child abuse, and other violent crimes. She supervises the domestic violence unit, the north and south county satellite offices, and the county court misdemeanor division.

To cite some high-profile cases where Cox won at trial: In 2022, she was lead prosecutor against Euri Jenkins, and he was sentenced to life in prison for hiring one of his friends as a hitman to kill his pregnant wife so he could collect on a life insurance policy.

Cox assisted in the case against Palm Beach Gardens cop Nouman Raja. A jury found the former police officer guilty in the fatal shooting of Corey Jones whose car had broken down.

Raja was convicted of manslaughter while armed and attempted first-degree murder.

One idea Cox presented during her campaign, that would be new in the office, she says she wants to establish a dedicated Hate Crimes Unit.
