CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)—Fans of a Netflix hit show filmed in the Charleston area received some disappointing news Monday.

Creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke announced in a letter addressed to all Pogues that the show will end after the next season.

"Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet," the trio wrote. "We hope you'll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break."

Chase Stokes, who plays protagonist John B, posted the letter to his social media alongside a caption saying, "Thank you to everybody who has tuned in these past 5 years. You've given us more than we could ever give back to you."

After seeing a picture of a group of teens on the beach at dusk during a power outage, the idea for Outer Banks was born seven years ago, show architects explained.

Since then, Outer Banks stars have traveled all over the Lowcountry to film some of the series' beloved scenes.

The most recent gathering of Kooks and Pogues in Charleston happened Oct. 8 at Charleston Music Hall, when fans gathered for the OBX season 4 premiere. The new season follows John B, JJ, Kiara, Sarah, Pope, and Cleo after they return from finding gold at El Dorado.

The Pogues manage to find trouble again before setting out on a new hunt for gold. Season 4, part 2, drops on Netflix on Nov. 7.

According to Tudum, OBX became a global sensation during its time, with season 4's part 1 debuting at No. 1 in the Global Top 10 English TV.

As fans prepare to say goodbye, let's look at some of the scenes filmed locally in season 4, part 1.

Ep. 1

In the beginning, when the friends head to the 7-Eleven to find out how much is in their bank account, it is filmed at Crosby's Fish & Shrimp Company off Folly Road on Oak Island.

Ep. 2

When the Pogues venture inside Blackstone Manor, they speak with a man named Genrette, who wants to find a lost amulet to break his family curse. The Porgues are really inside The Admiral's House, originally built for the commander of the Charleston Navy Yard in 1905.

Ep. 3

A new character, Sofia, who plays Rafe Cameron's new girlfriend, joins the cast and calls a Charleston house home.

Ep. 5

The Circular Congregational Church on Meeting Street and its cemetary is the backdrop for where "the living and the dead collide."

Once inside, Pope and Sarah find themselves in trouble in the catacombs. The duo ends up locked inside as water starts rushing in for the ending of part 1. The scenes were shot in the Old Exchange and Provost bulding in Charleston.
