Crews respond to early morning fire at former Virginia Intermont College

BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Crews responded to a fire at the former Virginia Intermont College early Wednesday morning.

According to a release from the Bristol, Virginia Fire Department (BVFD), crews were dispatched to the college, located at 112 Campus Drive, just before 3:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, a large amount of smoke was seen coming from the library. The fire appeared to be throughout the basement, the BVFD stated.

The BVFD reported the fire quickly burned through the first floor and into the second floor due to books and other combustibles still inside.

After a few hours, the fire was contained in the library area of the college.

No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. As of 9:30 a.m., the fire is being considered accidental, according to the BVFD.
