WILMINGTON, DE — The Delaware State Police have arrested Garrett Hitchens, a 34-year-old resident of Wilmington, on allegations of robbery and multiple theft-related offenses. These incidents reportedly occurred over the past several months, targeting various businesses in the Prices Corner area of Wilmington.

The series of events unfolded between April 25, 2024, and October 25, 2024, during which several shoplifting incidents were investigated by law enforcement. Each incident involved a white male suspect who allegedly stole household goods from local businesses and fled without payment. A particular incident on August 17, 2024, at the Acme on Centerville Road escalated to a robbery when the suspect allegedly threatened to harm an employee during his escape with stolen items.

Through investigative efforts, troopers identified Hitchens as the suspect linked to these activities, which included 21 shoplifting incidents resulting in over $5,600 worth of goods being taken. The targeted establishments included Acme, Bath and Body Works, Target, and Walgreens, all situated in the Prices Corner vicinity. Following this identification, warrants for Hitchens' arrest were issued, and officers made concerted efforts to locate him.

On October 28, 2024, at approximately 7:32 p.m., a trooper on routine patrol spotted Hitchens exiting the Acme store. Recognizing him from previous investigations and aware of the outstanding warrants, the trooper apprehended Hitchens in the parking lot without incident. Subsequent checks confirmed multiple warrants and capiases for his arrest.

Following his arrest, Hitchens was transported to a nearby hospital for an unrelated medical condition, which was non-life-threatening. He was then charged with several offenses, including second-degree robbery, shoplifting, and organized retail theft, among others. His arraignment took place at Justice of the Peace Court 11, leading to his commitment to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution under a secured bond of $15,002.

As with all legal proceedings, it is crucial to note that these charges are allegations, and Garrett Hitchens is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
