CSP: Man choked stranger at Meriden train station

MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A man is in custody after a woman told Connecticut State Police that he approached her and started choking her at a Meriden train station.

The attack happened Wednesday, according to state police. She was taken to a hospital to be treated, and has since been released.

The woman told police that the man, who she didn't know, grabbed her from behind, threw her on the ground and started choking her. She tried to get away, but was pinned by his weight, and began to lose consciousness. Security footage showed the attack, according to state police.

Curtis Desmond Hemmingway, 37, of Meriden, has been charged with criminal attempt at murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree strangulation and second-degree breach of peace. He's being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond.
