CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The two "persons of interest" in a homicide investigation in Chambersburg have both been charged with murder, police said.

Kainpest Hilaire and Steven Thomas face charges of first-degree murder, murder of the second-degree, burglary and tampering with evidence, according to an updated news release from police.

Thomas and Hilaire are currently locked up in Franklin County Jail, police said.

Chambersburg Police say on September 16 around 11 p.m. officers were called to 132 Lincoln Way for a deceased 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound and other injuries consistent with an assault.

Police say they observed a blue BMW leaving the area on video, tracked the car, and obtained the owner's, later found out to be Thomas, address.

At 11:30 a.m. a Pennsylvania State Police SERT team and Chambersburg Police executed a search warrant on the 1900 block of Ashley Drive where Hilaire and Thomas were found inside.

Video from a neighbor showed one person being led into a vehicle by police with law enforcement wearing tactical gear. A vehicle that appeared to be an armored car was also parked outside the residence with multiple other police vehicles in the area.

Police say this was an isolated incident and the public is not at risk. Those with information can contact Chambersburg Police at 717-264-4131.
